New Hydropower Supply for Lam Pao Dam Hydropower Plant in Thailand

Share:

Gamesa induction will supply one horizontal synchronous generator rated at 3,500 kVA for the Lam Pao Dam Hydropower Plant, located in Kalasin Province, northeastern Thailand.

The project is associated with the Lam Pao Dam, an earthfill dam constructed between 1963 and 1968 on the Pao and Huai Yang rivers. The dam has a height of approximately 33 meters and a total embankment length of around 7.8 km. Its primary purposes include flood control, agricultural irrigation, and local water management, with hydropower generation integrated as part of the existing infrastructure.

The hydropower plant has an installed capacity of approximately 2.5 MW and forms part of Thailand’s strategy to add renewable generation to existing dams under the development framework of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and the Royal Irrigation Department.

The scope of supply includes the design and manufacturing of the horizontal synchronous generator, optimized for low-head hydropower applications, ensuring high efficiency, robust mechanical performance, and long service life.

This project represents our first reference in Thailand, marking an important milestone in our international expansion strategy and strengthening our presence in the Southeast Asian hydropower market, while supporting sustainable energy development.
